An inhabited space, of any number and
type of dimension(s), is a place. Places are not abstract entities,
they have character, they have fields, ie they exude a presence. "Lost
in place" has a completely different meaning to "lost in space." Place
is modal, whereas space is scalar. PLACE := FEEDBACK(ITERATE(MODULATING(SPACE, FIELD))) Places are enclosing, concave, coherence; they are exhibit entity, existence, exude ontological affirmation. Aural places, visual places, tactile places, mental places, polyperceptual places. Internal places, environments, sound-fields, mind-fields, mine-fields! Private, public, intimate, comfortable, violent, crass, interesting, fatal transitional, memory, mind, cavity places. This website is a place. My place, your place. In the last 1980's a number us created a portable performance space, touring with it to stage polymodal works in sound and image, as performances and installations. Meanwhile, you may like to examine some photographic and written details of a portable performance space which I and a number of others designed, constructed and used to tour and perform concerts and polymedia (sound and image) installations. |
