Fraunhofer IIS mini-blog

Since July 2013, I've been working in the Emerging Audio Group (EAR) in the International Audio Labs at the Fraunhofer-Institut für Integrierte Schaltungen IIS in Tennenlohe, Germany, and living with my family in nearby Erlangen.

The Fraunhofer IIS audio group is most famous for the invention of MP3 compression, which it continues to improve and develop. My principal task is to assist in establishing the sonification group and to undertake the sonification of certain types of multivariate datasets for commercial applications.

During this time, I also have a number of other commitments, such as invited lectures, workshops and conferences.

In July, I attended the ICAD2013 conference in Łodz, Poland, where I delivered a paper and ran a workshop on using Python for sonification.

In early September, I delivered a Keynote Plenary on data sonification, and gave a concert of my music at the ICCHP Summer University 2013 on Maths, Science and Statistics for Blind and Partially Sighted Students.

In December, I helped organise the Interactive Sonification Workshop (ISon2013) at Fraunhofer IIS.
